A FREE weight management program for teens will begin at the Summer Hill Community Centre later this month.
Researchers at the Children's Hospital at Westmead have developed the Loozit program for young people aged from 13 to 16 years.
The program's aim is to empower young people to regain control of their body size, build self esteem, set healthy lifestyle goals and have fun.
Research dietitian Janice O'Connor stressed the program was nothing like The Biggest Loser and there are no group weigh-ins.
"In contrast with shows like The Biggest Loser, our program has a positive focus with emphasis on the whole family making realistic and achievable lifestyle changes that can fit in with everyday life," she said.
The nine-week long Loozit program will begin on Monday, April 28 and will run one afternoon a week from 5pm to 6.15pm.
Parents attend separate sessions at the same time to discuss how they can help the young people make positive lifestyle changes.
Booking are essential.
