POLICE have released CCTV footage of the graffiti vandals who they believe defaced the cenotaph of the Ashfield War Memorial last month.
The trio, thought to be two males and a female, caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage when they went on the rampage though Ashfield.
The Summer Hill train station, homes, phone boxes and more than 20 cars were defaced during the spree which happened between 1.30am and 8.30am on Saturday, May 17.
As well as the war memorial, the Mary Poppins statue, the gazebo and other sculptures in Ashfield Park were vandalised.
Crime manager acting Det-Insp Ian McCarthy said it was the attack on the war memorial and cenotaph in Ashfield Park that had caused the most community anger. He is appealing for the public's help in catching those responsible.
"We have distributed the CCTV footage among the police but at this stage we haven't come up with any names," he said.
"We decided to release the footage to the public in the hope that someone will come forward with information."
Because the alleged offenders are believed to be under 18, images of their faces have been pixilated.
Another possible way of tracing the culprits is through their graffiti "tags" which included the words purple, whips, waste, two, chrome, and the number 2145.
Anyone with any information should call Ashfield police on 9797 4099.
