STUDENTS from MLC Burwood are retelling a modern mystery that has become part of Australian folklore for the 2008 Sydney Rock Eisteddfod Challenge.
The tragic story of the Beaumont children, who were abducted from Glenelg Beach in Adelaide in the 1960s, has puzzled Australians for more than 40 years.
The story will come to life at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on Wednesday.
The MLC team of 100 performers and 20 crew members are managed by eisteddfod co-ordinator Blake Fatouros.
Mr Fatouros said the students had been very busy since rehearsals began in February.
"The kids are fantastic," he said. "They're really working hard and they've really pushed themselves.
"We should have something fantastic by the end of it."
Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, which starts tomorrow in Wollongong and runs until August 7, is the largest performing arts competition in Australia. It is supported by Cumberland Newspapers.
The event aims to promote awareness of the types of issues that young people face.
As many as 5500 students from across NSW will participate in this year's event.
Burwood Police and Community Youth Club performs on Tuesday and Croydon Park Public School performs in J Rock on August 5.
