TWO Inner West residents have been tipped as medal contenders for an Australian ice speed-skating competition.
Sinead Fogarty, of Ashfield, and Pierre Boda, of Concord West, will be the focus of attention at the Duke Trophy competition, which begins on Saturday at Iceworld in Queensland.
NSW is hoping to top the medal tally at the competition.
Fogarty will compete in the ladies' 1500m, 1000m and 500m events.
She is a member of the elite development squad, who have been identified as potential members of the Australian Olympic winter institute squad.
She will be attempting to make the time to qualify for Australia's first ladies short track Olympic relay team.
Boda, also a member of the elite development squad, will compete for the men's titles. He has been National Age Champion every year since 2000.
The annual Duke Trophy competition is named after Len Duke, one of Australia's early short-track speed-skaters, who represented Victoria in national championships throughout the 1950s.
